But this is what is happening in Africa at the moment. And I think as many people as possible need to see this image and those that accompany it to see the absolute devastation of 12 million people with not enough food and water to survive. This image below is off a gallery on the Australian new sources www.news.com.au It states,
Mihag Gedi Farah, a seven-month-old child with a weight of 3.4kg, is held by his mother in a field hospital of the International Rescue Committee, IRC, in the town of Dadaab, Kenya on July 26.
The U.N. will airlift emergency rations this week to parts of drought-ravaged Somalia that militants banned it from more than two years ago, in a crisis intervention to keep hungry refugees from dying along what an official calls the "roads of death."
Tens of thousands already have trekked to neighbouring Kenya and Ethiopia, hoping to get aid in refugee camps.

When I first saw this image last night, I was already in a melancholy mood but I did not expect to react the way I did. I cried for a quite a while and felt incredibly guilty as yesterday I purchased 3 pairs of shoes which were definitely not a necessity.
I hope that anyone who stumbles across this blog, whether they are my friends or a stranger clicking next blog is as equally affected as me and decides to help in anyway there can. I will be donating to UNICEF/ I wish I could donate more, however all my present saving are going towards paying for my volunteer expedition in January to Kenya, one of the areas hit hard.
So dig a little, $5, $10. The money from your morning coffee or after work beers.
I remember watching Oprah awhile ago and she spoke of an image taken by a news photographer in the 80's documenting the African Famine and the image was of a young girl, on the brink of death with fly's hanging off her, just waiting. Oprah then told the tale of the girl who survived with the help of aid and was now a university student hoping to work for the United Nations. I hope in years to come, this haunting picture is shown to me again, this time with a similar story of survival and Mihag was able to live a happy life.
