Dirty Dancing

Still procrastinating doing my final packing  I have found myself parked in front of the the television watching 'Dirty Dancing'. Now I have watched this thousands of times so I do not know why I am so drawn to it tonight. I am a sucker for movies with such nostalgia and I have never found a musical or dance themed movie that I haven't liked.

I guess while watching it as a hormone driven 13 year old I wanted to be Baby and take the fancy of an older more experienced fellow who like to wear tight pants and baggy shirts. He would initially hate me but after a massive dance off learn to love and appreciate me and my naivety.

Perhaps I thought I would meet this bloke at a local Blue Light Disco, he would be in year 11, maybe going to the Blue light to look after his little sister and would see me in my black dress pants and school shoes that I dressed up with my new snakeskin backless Supre top which looked ridiculous as I had a non existent bosom and enough orthodontic head gear to bounce satellites off. Sigh.
Needless to say that did not happen.
Anyway, back to the film.

There are some obvious iconic lines in the film.

Now I agree with the overall metaphoric premise of not being ignored or 'put in the corner', but if I was Baby I would have much preferred to be in the corner and not have to view that horrid group performance going on at that stage, and also the added comfort of having a nice sturdy wall to lean against after all that dirty dancing and secret loving with the local dance instructor.

My favourite line would be,
Oh Baby!
This could possibly be the best line from any movie ever made.
I use it a lot. Obviously it brings the LOLs when I carry a watermelon into parties and jubilantly exclaim to the guests 'I carried a watermelon'. But it also is a great one liner when carrying any object really.

Ahhh the movie is almost complete and all the young and tempestuous staff members are introducing the straight laced rich snobs the art of the dirty dance. How quaint. Although I have always had issues with the way Johnny mimes those lines from the song at the end. It makes you look a little crazy, Patrick Swayze.

I am clearly stressed and delusional. But I think I may watch Grease now as I complete this powerpoint presentation on myself to introduce moi to the Chinese students I will be teaching. Perhaps I should show them this blog.
